My 5 year old son is always wanting to help me in the kitchen. I'm not really sure why he finds it so fascinating, but I'm glad he does. I hope that someday he will love to cook as much as I do. For now though, since he is so young, there are limited things I will let him do around the kitchen. Sometimes he comes up with the most fun ideas.
A couple of weekends ago I was preparing lunch. It was just a simple tuna sandwich with hard boiled egg on toast with tomatoes and lettuce. I had a container of grape tomatoes and my son asks if he can put them on the sandwich. Not thinking anything of it I tell him yes, as soon as I slice some up (we were out of regular larger tomatoes) he can put them on the sandwich. He tells me no, he doesn't want them cut up, but he needs the toothpicks. A little confused is an understatement of how I felt at that moment, but as I saw him reach for the toothpicks and watched him do what he thought was a fabulous idea, I couldn't help but agree. What a fun way to dress up a simple Saturday lunch.
With a beautiful garnish like that on top, how can you go wrong? ;)
